                              Guest Speaker, Katie Koestner

When she was 18 years old, Katie Koestner was sexually assaulted by a fellow college student.  As the first survivor of date rape to share her story on a national level, Katie broke a long silence.  She is the subject of an HBO movie, and has appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine, Oprah, MTV, Larry King Live, CNN, NBC News, Good Morning America, among others.

Katie is currently the Executive Director for Campus Outreach Services and Take Back the Night Foundation.  In addition, she is a published author, media personality, and leading national expert on relationships, sexuality, dating violence, safety and technology.

Peer pressure form older students and negative role models can create environments in which even "good kids" can succumb to negative influences.  Katie provides a comprehensive look at the new risks young people may face regarding high school parties, social networking, social addictions, substance use, hook-up culture, harassment, bullying, and other relationship issues.

Katie's combination of anecdotes, research, case studies, and discussion never fails to create an engaging, thought-provoking experience for her audience members.  She successfully bridges the generation gap.  The program provides a list of suggestions for establishing positive relationships and how to continue parenting through the teen years.  High risk behaviors will be identified as well as ways to reduce risk.  Discussion topics will include various "sticky" situations and how to handle them including parties, associations with peers, students, cyber-friends, and more.
